3D for 3DVIA
August 2008

I worked for 3DVIA, a new division of Dassault Systemes, from May to August of 2008. My project was a tech demo for SIGGRAPH 2008, using 3DVIA Virtools software and the next generation 3DVIA MP game engine. We created a Boston-themed cafe environment which users could explore with virtual avatars, and pick up Skype-enabled (virtual) cell phones.

My responsibilities in this project included modeling two of the three high-poly cell phones, modeling many of the low-poly props in the cafe, UV'ing the phones and almost every model in the environment, texturing, and lighting.

In addition to getting a lot more practice with low-poly modeling, another highlight of my time working with 3DVia was learning the Headus software for UV's. I took a few days to learn the software on the job, and quickly became the UV go-to man in the office, resulting in me UV'ing almost every model in the environment.
